Exercising Can Make You A Better Golfer

As a golfer you are probably passionate about the game. You'll enjoy the challenges the game presents, both mental and physical; how to avoid the bunkers, choosing the right clubs, and working out what effect the wind will have are just some of the things you've got to think about. It's not just about bashing it into a holeto play well you need, accuracy, good judgement, strength and suppleness.

Are you happy with your golf as it is? Are you always on the look out for hints and tips that will help you improve? Well, there is something you can do that doesn't have to cost the earth. Doing physical exercise such as cycling and walking are great ways to improve your general level of fitness, but if you really want to be a better golfer you should take a leaf out of Tiger Woods' book and other professional golfers and do regular exercises that improve your strength and suppleness.

You might be one of the many amateur golfers who shun doing any golf-specific exercises because you are worried about becoming over muscley, or you might think that they are a waste of time. On the contrary, lifting weights will tone the core muscle regions used in golf, such as the arms, shoulders, back, trunk, legs and ankles.

Stretching to stay supple is also very important, as the golf swing demands that you have good ease of movement. You don't want to be out on the course feeling stiff, or worse, feel that you've hurt your back.

You can do simple strengthening and stretching exercises in the privacy of your own home or even at work at your desk. If you don't trust yourself to be disciplined enough, you could try going to a Pilates class where the exercises involved are great for toning up and strengthening key areas of your body. Going with a friend makes it more likely that you'll stick to it and it's more fun.

Now that you've got into the swing of doing exercises to improve your game, you may want to put them to the test on a golf holiday.
