Thought Field Therapy - Now This Is Food For Thought

Thought field therapy (TFT) was developed in 1981 by Dr. Roger Callaghan. TFT can best be described as a totally non-invasive, drug free therapy that eliminates the negative energy in the body. This is done by addressing and stimulating the specific energy meridian points in the body in a precise and defined sequence. It is a New Age psychotherapy that relies on the fundamental principles underlying traditional Chinese medicine.

Thought field therapy originated interestingly enough when Dr. Callaghan was able to cure a patient of her water-phobia by asking her to tap on the point that connected with her stomach meridian. According to proponents of the system, the key lies in Dr. Callaghans discovery of the natural method in which psychological problems are solved.

Though field therapy operates on the principle that negative emotions result in physical problems because these emotions lead to energy blockages in the body. When the blockages are removed, the fears will disappear. Thus TFT seeks to cure anxieties by directly attacking the disturbing thought pattern. Interpreted in this fashion, TFT strikes at the root of the problem.

In a session, the TFT practitioner first directs the patient to think about his problem. When a patient thinks of a particular problem, he or she generates an individual thought field, much like the electromagnetic field that is generated by an item of electric equipment when it is switched on. When the thinking process is on, the thought field gets generated and perturbations, which are precisely encoded information contained in the thought field, become activated. Each perturbation corresponds to a different set of acupressure points.

With this, the work of thought field therapy begins. To release the pent up negative energy, the patient is required to tap the acupressure points while he or she THINKS and FOCUSSES on the object of fear or anxiety. Tapping unblocks the Qi or the vital energy that flows through the body. The sequence of tapping is integral to the success of the treatment.

Thought field therapy also combines various eye movements. According to Dr. Callaghan, the eyes are an extension of the brain. Each eye movement, therefore, accesses different parts of the brain. This is followed by a humming and counting exercise that activates the left and right part of the brain.

Thought field therapy has thus been called the psychologists version of acupuncture. In reality TFT is a comprehensive system of treatment that combines features of Kinesiology, Acupuncture, Cognitive Therapy, Chinese Medicine and Psychoanalysis.

Thought field therapy has produced amazing and almost dramatic results in patients, some of whom were seriously ill with diseases of the heart. Sometimes the therapy is so effective and rapid that it is startling.

TFT is said to be the only therapy that can offer significant in some cases, complete relief from problems within a few minutes. It gives immediate relief to people suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, phobias, addiction, fear and anxieties.

Thought field therapy has been hailed as a holistic system or a whole-body system of therapy that goes beyond the incessant chattering of the human mind to find a cure. Thus TFT is a fascinating new technique for emotional healing and is a quick way to bring about a sudden and lasting change.
