FDA-Approved Cream Reduces Facial Hair Growth

More than 22 million women in the United States struggle with unwanted facial hair each week. Many women report that this excess hair leaves them feeling self-conscious and unfeminine.

Unwanted facial hair is a common condition that affects women of all ages and ethnic backgrounds, and the causes are diverse, including heredity and hormonal disorders. It also can be a side effect of certain medications. Its severity can range from light growth on the upper lip to heavy growth that looks like a mustache or beard.

Even though facial hair is natural and normal, when it is unwanted, it can have a significant impact on a woman's self-esteem. Many women go to great lengths to hide this condition from even their closest friends.

The problem is more widespread than one might think, but it doesn't have to be.

More than 300,000 women have used Vaniqa (eflornithine hydrochloride) Cream, 13.9%, an easily applied topical cream that has been clinically proven to reduce facial hair growth in women. Vaniqa is the only product approved by the Food and Drug Administration for this condition.

Vaniqa does not remove hair, but rather reduces the rate of hair growth by blocking an enzyme. Therefore, women should continue to use their current method of hair removal in conjunction with Vaniqa. Women can consult a dermatologist or other physician to get a prescription for Vaniqa. The most frequent side effects related to treatment with Vaniqa are skin related.
